The School’N Shad has to be one of the best baits that I
have ever used! It seems to evoke the most ferocious strikes
that I have ever witnessed. Last July on a trip to Canada,
my friend Nathan had the same fish follow to the boat
SEVERAL times. He was throwing a plain white spinner bait. I
was in a boat behind him working the edge of the deeper
water. Just to be funny, I cast my School’N Shad over his
boat and into the same pocket where his fish had followed so
many times. The fish hit almost immediately and the rest of
the trip I was harassed for "stealing" his fish. My favorite
thing to do is to allow the bait to helicopter down into
weed pockets. I call the School’N Shad "Muskie Crack." There
really is not a better bait out there!
The Simms Bass spinnerbait has a special design that catches
fish. I met up with Colby one hot, muggy late afternoon. He
told me the bass bite was steady. Topwater lures were
producing early and late, but the spinnerbait bite was
really good. Knowing that Colby manufactures his own line of
spinnerbaits, that news was not surprising. I teased him
about his answer. My jabs about his baits were cut short
when he promptly boated a 5 pound bass, ten minutes into the
trip. This caused me not only to switch to one of his baits,
but to question him on Lake Kinkaid and on how he developed
his special spinnerbaits. Simms took me to several of his
largemouth hotspots. We caught fish at every location. Most
of the bass we caught on this evening trip and the few hours
we fished the next morning we caught on Colby’s
spinnerbaits. Named the Big’un Bass Series, the design of

Wisconsin & Ontario, I got a 48”er casting, a 50 1/2”er
casting, and a 52” beast of a fish that took your 5-blade
Monster version trolling. The School N Shads & Hatchet Shads
are unreal baits for muskies and pike. On my best day for
numbers, I caught 8 muskies from 36” to 47” and 5 big pike
up to 46” in one day, all casting with the 3-blade Hatchet
Shads and the 4-blade and 5-blade School’N Shads. My
partners had nothing but follows and threw everything in the
box, including other spinnerbaits. Muskies don’t follow that
much, but really hit these lures hard and fast. They’re also
great for big bass, stripers, lake trout and other fish.
